Airmont Man Sentenced for Kidnap and Murder Plot

An Airmont man has been sentenced to a year of probation after alerting the FBI about his involvement in a plot to kidnap and murder a Hasidic man who refused to grant his wife a religious divorce. The U.S. Attorney’s office said 34 year-old Binyamin Gottlieb went to the FBI after the kidnapping plot for which he was hired eventually turned into a plan for murder. He pleaded guilty in September to helping hide the plot from law enforcement. His co-defendants got prison time — 26 year-old Shimen Liebowitz of Monroe got three years and 56 year-old Israeli rabbi Aharon Goldberg got two.
