“Helping Hands of Rockland County” to Host Fundraising Gala this Weekend

A local group that helps house the homeless from November first through the end of April and when the weather is cold and dangerous, is holding its 14th annual fundraising gala this weekend. For years “Helping Hands of Rockland County” has housed and fed homeless people in area houses of worship. Now, following a request from the governor, there’s a warming center in Pomona at the Yeager Health Complex. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Legislator Harriet Cornell said the county has joined forces with Helping Hands to run this warming center from a centralized location, offering meals and a place to stay overnight in a humane setting…

Helping Hands will run the center under a contract with the County for $458,000, with about half that to be reimbursed by the state. Helping Hands’ Benefit Chairperson Kathy Lathrop says the group hopes to raise additional funds this weekend to help it carry out its mission…

The event is being held Sunday from 4-8 pm at Town & Country in Congers. For tickets or more information, visit their website, HelpingHandsOfRockland.org. If you can’t make it to the gala, maybe you can help out on the front lines, just like Hannah, who for the last three years has volunteered at the United Church of Spring Valley’s soup kitchen…

To volunteer there contact Chris at 845-548-8421. And once again if you are interested in attending the Helping Hands Gala on Sunday, visit HelpingHandsOfRockland.org to find out how to purchase tickets for the event, or call them at 845-356-0100 or send an email to info@helpinghandsofrockland.org.
