Ramapo’s Closed Hungry Hollow Road Could be Opened to Single Lane Soon

The New York State Thruway Authority may open up Hungry Hollow Road in Ramapo with one lane of traffic in the near future, but only if it’s deemed safe. The roadway was closed entirely after the Thruway overpass was struck by a truck earlier this month. A recent report by the state Comptroller’s office said 3 of 83 bridges in Rockland County were structurally deficient, the third lowest of every county in the state. “Structurally deficient” bridges, by the way, are considered safe to drive on, but have load-bearing elements in poor condition or are prone to repeated flooding.
