NJ Files Suit Against Township of Mahwah Over Park Restriction Ordinance, Eruvs

Mahwah’s ordinances restricting usage of recreational facilities exclusively to New Jersey residents is “hateful” and “discriminatory.” That’s according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday by the State of New Jersey against the township. The nine-count complaint would have Mahwah return more than $3.4 million in state grants. It would also block the ordinance that passed and the other that’s been proposed preventing the use of telephone poles for Eruvs, a religious boundary that would allow Orthodox Jews to do everyday things outside of the home that are typically not permitted on the Sabbath.
