Changes to Common Core Standards Create More Confusion

While New York has moved away from the controversial Common Core standards, having recently approved a new set of reading and math expectations for students, it’s not entirely clear how those changes will be implemented in day-to-day instruction. The new standards still have some of Common Core’s key features, but State Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee says she will be meeting with the State Education Department tomorrow to find out if Common Core could eventually be scrapped entirely…

According to Education Week, New York’s rewriting of the standards took two years, involving groups of teachers and parents who went through every standard to see where improvements could be made. The state also reviewed more than 4,000 public comments.
