Suffern Man Faces Prison After DWI Conviction

A Suffern man faces prison time after being convicted last week of a DWI accident that almost killed a man nearly two years ago. Rockland District Attorney Tom Zugibe said Jonathan Elwell faces a maximum of seven years in prison when he is sentenced in December. Elwell was driving his 2011 Mercedes Benz around 1AM October 14th two years ago and heading westbound on Route 202 in Montebello when he crashed head-on with the victim’s 2001 Cadillac. Elwell reportedly did not attempt to brake or avoid the collision with the victim’s car. Elwell fled the scene on foot, but hours afterwards he told Ramapo Police he had blacked out, remembered being in an accident, but nothing else about it. He was found about a half-mile from the accident scene with a blood alcohol content of point-1-1.
