Rockland DA: Famed Rockland Distance Swimmer “Skip” Storch Charged with Sex Crimes

WRCR has learned that the New City man arrested on Friday and charged with sexual offenses involving a minor, David Storch, is the famous long-distance swimmer, “Skip” Storch. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibie confirmed the South Nyack-Grand View Police Department’s arrest of the 60-year-old Storch is charged with allegedly committing sexual acts on a child less than 13 years-old over a three-year period between June 2008 and December 2011. Storch is a 1980 Ramapo College graduate and was inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. That same year he swam a record-breaking 3 laps unassisted around Manhattan – a total of 85.5 miles – in 32 hours and 52 minutes. In 1993, he attempted to swim 177 miles from Cuba to Florida to call attention to the deterioration of coral reefs around the world. According to a UPI press report, Cuban President Fidel Castro even paid him a visit to wish him good luck. Storch was arraigned in South Nyack Justice Court, sent to the County Jail and is scheduled to return to Court at a later date. Storch could not be reached for comment.
