Cab Driver Unlicensed in Monsey Infant Death Accident

Published reports say the driver of the cab that killed an infant at his home Sunday evening in Monsey was unlicensed. The driver of the American Latina Taxi, 41 year-old Jorge Garrangui-Castillo, was backing out of the driveway when the cab struck the infant, Ephraim Szydlow, who was sitting near the end of the driveway of his Johanna Lane home. He later died at Good Samaritan Hospital. There was reportedly no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement and Castillo is expected to be ticketed for unlicensed operation of a vehicle. Additional tickets may be forthcoming as the investigation continues. Police are also reportedly looking into whether there was adult supervision at the time of the accident that killed Ephriam, who was the only child of Aaron and Tena Szydlow. Ramapo police told the Journal News that the case may be referred to Rockland Child Protective Services.
