Ramapo Police Officer Files Notice of Claim Against Town for Discrimination

A notice of claim was filed last week by a former Ramapo police officer who is planning to sue the town for race and gender discrimination. Hired in 2005, Yolanda Tyson wants $75 million for discrimination in salary, overtime, promotions, benefits, and discipline, which her claim says began just a year after she was hired. In her claim she says she was treated differently from other officers after an arm and neck injury during a 2012 crash in her police car in Montebello. Tyson, a former NYPD officer, was dismissed June 27 by the town, after not working for more than a year. Ramapo officials could not be reached for comment.
