It’s Official: New TZ Bridge to Bear Former Governor’s Name

In a press conference last week in Albany, the governor said the idea about naming the bridge after his father was first suggested to him by outgoing Assemblyman Denny Farrell

But Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino thought something in Queens would be more suited for Mario Cuomo since he grew up there, and Rockland County Executive Ed Day said the name should be left as-is, or it could even have been named after the three law enforcement officials who were gunned down in the 1981 Brinks robbery…

At the very least, Day felt Rockland and Westchester residents should have had the chance to give some input on the name. Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to sign the bill into law.
