East Ramapo Budget Passes

The East Ramapo School district has its new 231 million dollar budget, passed yesterday by about 300 votes. The unofficial tally has 2,121 votes in favor and 1,809 against. The budget represents a 1.45 percent increase instead of the 2.5 percent increase voters overwhelmingly rejected last month. It’ll support full-day kindergarten and boost summer programs, English- as-a-second-language, special education and arts programs. Turnout for the re-vote was light. The Journal News said in the district of 58,000 registered voters, only about 6 percent came out to the polls.
