Rockland Nurse Indicted

A grand jury in New Jersey on Monday indicted 64 year-old Dorothea Harvilik, formerly of Suffern, of fourth-degree assault. The New Jersey state attorney general said the State Board of Nursing had permanently revoked Harvilik’s R-N license after a video purportedly showed her abusing a 26 year-old ventilator-dependent, bed-bound man she was assigned to care for in his Bergen County home. The video helped prompt New Jersey to create its “Safe Care Cam” program, in which surveillance cameras are loaned to residents who suspect a loved one is being mistreated by an in-home caregiver. Harvilik faces up to 18 months in New Jersey state prison if convicted.
