Contaminated Soil Controversy Continues to Grow

The controversy, surrounding the contaminated soil that was left in 4 locations within Hillburn and Sloatsburg, continues to grow. It was discovered last week that the local sewer district paid the Town of Ramapo $400,000 in 2012 to remove the soil, which takes up roughly 15,500 cubic yards in size. Town officials say that the cancer-causing chemical known as Benzene was found in certain parts of the soil; however more tests will be done to see if any more harmful chemicals are found.
