The New York Alliance Against Insurance Fraud has named a K-9 member of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department fire unit New York’s top fraud fighter for 2016. Patch.com reported Scooter, a yellow Lab who joined the force in 2006, and died last October after a 10-year career, investigating hundreds of fires, was called “A remarkable arson dog whose nifty nose earned dozens of arson convictions.” Her longtime handler Det. Doug Lerner accepted the award on Scooter’s behalf.
