Health and Education Departments Release Lead Levels in State Schools

In a statement released yesterday, the state Health and Education Departments revealed that about 14 percent of water outlets, in schools outside of New York City, showed elevated levels of lead last year. In total 236,600 outlets were tested, and with 14 percent of those testing above the threshold for federal action, the state was forced to close off those outlets. Mahopac Middle School was one of the schools that showed outlets with higher-than-normal lead levels, about 44 percent of those outlets failed the test. The departments will conduct another state-wide test in 2020. (Source: LoHud)
