This week, the Public Service Commission of Rockland County released a draft order concerning a rate hike request by Suez Water. The Commission decided to not accept a three-year joint proposal with Suez that would have raised local water bills by a total of $5 million dollars. The modified order will offer strong incentives for meaningful water conservation. The overall goal of the order is to reduce water supply demand by more than 3 million gallons a day, which would be twice the reduction called for in Suez’s original unmodified plan.
