Morning News Update 1/09/2017

In Wesley Hills this morning, a water main break has forced the town of Ramapo to close Wilder Road. Authorities responded to the water main break at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night and found water flowing down Wilder Road, along with a large opening in the middle of the street. Crews are expected to be working throughout the morning on the issue and are expecting to finish repairs by this afternoon.  (Source: Lohud)


The planners of Nyack’s Unity concert were forced to cancel the show after Saturday’s snow fall became too much to deal with. The concert, which was originally scheduled for 7:30 pm Saturday, has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 14th. The doors for the Unity concert will open at 7 p.m. next Saturday and will feature local bands playing all different types of rock music. (Source: LoHud)


Starting on Tuesday of this week, Nyack hospital will begin to restrict visitors as their precautionary flu policy takes effect. The hospital will encourage visitors to wear medical face masks and use hand sanitizer. The policy also restricts the amount of visitors, children under the age of 13 allowed in the hospital, and any person showing flu-like symptoms.  (Source: LoHud)


The Indian Point nuclear power plant will close by the year 2021 after the state and the plant’s owner were able to reach a verbal agreement. Reports suggest that the official agreement could be signed at some point in the coming days. The plant’s impending closing has been seen as an environmental victory, however some reports state that the plant’s closing could reduce reliability and increase electric rates.
