HudsonStand12 Arrested

A group calling themselves the HudsonStand12 disrupted construction of Spectra Energy’s high pressure, 42-inch fracked gas pipeline on Thursday, which the company was attempting to pull underneath the Hudson River from Verplanck to a site in Stony Point, NY. The protesters, from the local group Resist Spectra and from Mississippi Stand, an Iowan-based group who fought the recent Dakota Access Pipeline under the Des Moines River, swarmed the work site by running inside to disrupt activities at the construction site and locking to each other around construction equipment, said spokeswoman Courtney Williams. The HudsonStand 12 were charged with Criminal Trespass and Resisting Arrest and arraigned early Friday morning by Jude Daniel McCarthy. They were released on $5,000 bail for each arrestee. One objection the protesters have to Spectra energy’s AIM Pipeline is that it would run within 105 feet of Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant safety facilities. The pipelines has been opposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, as well as many local officials in Cortlandt and Westchester County.
