Rockefeller Tree Cut Down Today

Today is the day a 94-foot Norway spruce in Oneonta is being cut down for the Rockefeller Plaza. The first tree went up in 1931 by local construction workers after the land was cleared. The tradition officially continued in 1933 when Rockefeller Plaza opened. The spruce is due to arrive Saturday in Manhattan. The tree’s 50,000 lights will be switched on during a live television broadcast November 30. A New York thanks to Angie and Graig Eichler who donated the tree.
