Electrical Fire At Indian Point 2 Nuclear Power Plant

Yesterday at Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant a bushing on a 138-kilovolt electrical supply line failed causing a small fire on the cable that self-extinguished soon after the electrical failure. Operators defined it as an “unusual event” the lowest of the four levels of emergency classifications used by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Entergy spokesman Jerry Nappi said that followed an electrical fault on a cable that carries electricity between both operating units at the site. NRC resident inspectors on-site heard the bushing fail and then witnessed the response to the fire. They will continue to witness company repairs. Nappi said there is no impact on overall plant operations. Both plants are operating at full power. No injuries were reported. (Source: MidHudsonNews.com)
