Full Military Honors for Burial of Sgt. James Morrison

The members of the Hillcrest Fire Department are planning a final tribute for 28-year-old Army sergeant James “Jamie” Morrison of Wesley Hills. Morrison died last week in Fort Carson, Colorado serving with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry. He served three deployments to Afghanistan and was cited for heroism. He lived in Colorado with his wife and daughter and had been a member of Hillcrest Fire Department alongside his father, Richard Morrison, before beginning his military service. The death has been listed as a suicide and is presently under investigation as post-traumatic stress disorder. Sergeant Morrison will be buried with full military honors. There will be visiting hours Saturday at the funeral home 71 Central Highway from 2-5 pm and 7-9pm. The procession will leave at 11 am Sunday for the Frederick W. Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Brick Church Road in Hempstead. The graveside service is scheduled for noon. Rockland County Executive Ed Day is requesting flags at half-staff on county buildings from Thursday-Monday.
