Afternoon News Update 10/25

A new report was released today which stated that 74% of guns used in crimes within New York State originated from other states. New York gun laws are some of the strongest in the country, but the state continues to have gun issues as the flow of guns from outside the state has been steady. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has stated that the report will be released to the public later today, but believes that the data clearly points to lax laws in other states hurting New York. A Southeast man was arrested last week after he sold Xanax to an undercover Putnam County deputy. 20-year-old John Power was taken into custody after police got word that he was selling prescription pain killers in the area. Police were then able to setup the undercover sting operation on October 20th and arrest the 20-year-old. Powers was charged with multiple felony charges; he was arraigned in Carmel Town Court and released pending a future court appearance. (Source: LoHud)

As Election Day draws closer, Rockland County officials are urging residents that it is illegal to place campaign signs in a public-right-of-way. Some of the signs that have been taken down were campaign attack ads and were removed from multiple busy intersections in Clarkstown and Ramapo. Multiple candidates on both sides of the isle have released statements saying that they wish to remain civil on the campaign trail and do not support the placement of the signs, nor do they support the hateful messages being displayed on them. In national sports news, the World Series starts tonight in Cleveland as the Indians and Cubs look to break their respective championship droughts! You can catch all the action starting at 8 p.m. on Fox. And in NBA news, the Knicks will also be in Cleveland as they start their season against the Cavaliers, the Nets meanwhile will start their season tomorrow night in Boston.
