Afternoon News Update 10/24

In Bronxville, a 24-year-old man was arrested for supposedly stealing a car and a checkbook from the New York Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital. According to authorities, Yonkers resident Michael Perrier illegally went into the hospital last week and stole the checkbook and car keys from a desk drawer. Police used surveillance footage from the hospital to identify Perrier; he was taken to the Westchester County Department of Corrections and is due back in court on October 26th. (Source: LoHud)

In Paterson, New Jersey on Friday, police arrested three men on drug dealing charges at a house in the 4th ward, after numerous citizen complaints were filed related to the residence. Authorities seized 1,680 packets of heroin, as well as, small amounts of other illicit drugs. 40-year-old Demetrius McCutchen and 35-year-old Jerome Alexander, who live at the residence, were charged with 13 different drug offenses. The third suspect, 35-year-old Damien Thompson, was not involved in the distribution of the heroin found at the scene. (Source: NorthJersey)

New Jersey residents are almost completely united in their opposition to a new proposal that would allow two casinos to be built in North New Jersey. A new poll suggests that 70 percent of Jersey residents oppose the plan, while only 24 percent support the proposal. The poll was conducted by a group from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In national baseball news, The Chicago Cubs are heading back to the World Series for the first time since 1945. The Cubs were able to put away the Dodgers for good on Saturday with a 5-0 shutout win in Chicago. The Indians have not won the World Series since 1948 and the Cubs have not won since 1908; either way one team will break their championship drought. The World Series starts tomorrow in Cleveland.
