Viola Estates Ramapo Stop Work Order

At a hearing in the New City courthouse, the Ramapo Building Department issued a stop work order on the Viola road construction project. The neighbors of the newly constructed Viola Estates in Ramapo had commissioned an on-site inspection of the 44-home development that found separate plumbing, gas and electrical systems and separate water heaters and boilers suggesting there were accessory unapproved apartments in the complex. The Attorney representing the neighbors, Steve Mogel, told Judge William Kelly that the community cannot trust Ramapo officials to follow the rules because the building was tied to Chief Building Inspector Anthony Malia, who is under indictment for 100 felony charges due to relationships with builder and contractors. Attorney Jospeh Haspel, representing the developer Ephraim Grossman and Viola Gardens LLC said the developer has agreed to go before the Ramapo Planning Board to seek revised plans and correct any problems cited. Kelly has adjourned the hearing until Friday.
