Brink’s Robbery Memorial Today 4 pm

Today marks the 35th Anniversary of the Brink’s Robbery that took the lives of Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown and Brink’s guard Peter Paige. The memorial service begins at 4:00 p.m. and will be held at the Mountainview entrance to the New York State Thruway just off Route 59 (adjacent to the McDonald’s) The Keynote speaker this afternoon will be Sheriff James Kralik, an officer who was working the day of the robbery. There will be a wreath laying ceremony, rifle salute, pipes and drum and a police guard. The Black Liberation Army carried out the robbery killing guard Paige at what are now the shops of Nanuet. Brown and O’Grady were killed near the New York State Thruway entrance while trying to stop the suspects. In honor of the officers lost, The O’Grady and Brown scholarship was created to support Rockland County students who are interested in seeking a career in law enforcement.
