Afternoon News Update 10/12

This morning in Mamaroneck, a CSX freight train derailed on a Metro-North Railroad track. No one was injured in the derailment, which occurred at 4:15 a.m. Authorities say the freight train remained upright after the derailment and the incident did not cause any delays on the Metro-North Line. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the protest at the Spectra Algonquin Pipeline worksite. Four of the protestors had climbed into an uninstalled section of the pipeline as an act of defiance, while the other three had climbed over a security fence. All seven protestors were charged with criminal trespassing in the 3rd degree and are due in Cortlandt town court on October 17th. (Source: LoHud)

This morning, a fire at the Englewood Cliffs Campus caused the evacuation of twenty-seven nuns and two priests from the four story complex. The fire, which was caused by a faulty compressor in the utility building, started around 7 a.m. and filled the entire building with smoke. The single casualty in the blaze was a pet cat which was owned by one of the nun’s living there. (Source: NorthJersey)

In national baseball news, the Cubs stunned the Giants last night with a 4-run top of the 9th to advance to the NLCS. The Dodgers, meanwhile, were able to even the slate at 2 games apiece with the Nationals and force a game 5, which will take place tomorrow night in Washington.
