Afternoon News Update 10/5

This morning, a freight train derailed in the Bronx while moving inside the Oak Point railyard, which caused delays on the Northeast Regional and Acela Express lines. The FDNY received the call at around 10 a.m. and arrived on the scene as a safety precaution. No hazardous materials were being transported on the derailed freight train and no injuries were reported at the scene. (Source: LoHud)

The creepy clown scares that have been popping up across the country have made their way to the Hudson Valley. Various social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram have made vague threats to schools and people in Westchester County. The police are taking these posts seriously; however, they don’t believe people should worry about a credible threat at this time. (Source: LoHud)

This week, the New York City Football Club purchased a 17-acre plot of land in Orangeburg with the intent to build a 25,000-square-foot training complex. The site has been abandoned for more than a decade and will be able to house offices, a gym, soccer fields, and parking. The team still needs to apply for certain permits; they expect to move in to the complex before the start of the 2018 MLS season. (Source: LoHud)

In New York sports news, tonight is the night for the New York Metropolitans as they face off in a win or go home Wild Card playoff game against the San Francisco Giants. Madison Bumgarner and his impressive playoff resume will go up against Noah Syndergaard in a battle of the aces; game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
