Hurricane Matthew Heads for Florida

Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 storm, hit Haiti’s southern coast Tuesday morning with torrential rain and 145-mile-per hour winds. The storm grazed Cuba Tuesday night as a Category 3 storm with 125-mile-per-hour winds and is now aiming for the Bahamas this evening, according to multiple news sources. The Weather Channel is reporting as of now the death toll was at eleven. Haiti is vulnerable because the communities have not recovered from a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in 2010 killing over 230,000 people, crumbling infrastructure, and leaving over one million people homeless. The latest update from Matthew is forecast to hit Florida midday Thursday into Friday. No word yet on how far Matthew will continue up the eastern seaboard.
