“Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” in October

Three of New York’s most iconic buildings will be lit up purple this month in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. One World Trade Center was lit on Saturday, SUNY Plaza in Albany and the Mid-Hudson Bridge will feature purple lights throughout the month as part of the campaign to “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence.” Last year, police agencies reported approximately 54,000 victims of intimate partner and domestic violence while New York courts issued nearly 206,000 orders of protection in connection with cases of partner violence.
