51 counties in New York State are now designated as a natural disaster area by the federal government as a result of this summer’s drought. Three are in Hudson Valley, Dutchess , Putnam, and Westchester counties. The designation makes farmers eligible for emergency loans from the FSA. If you are a farmer you have eight months from the date of declaration to apply for emergency loans. Each loan is based on loss of production and the security and repayment ability of the operator.
