Afternoon News Update 9/30

On Monday, a 17-year-old Pleasantville Cottage School student was charged and arrested for slashing a fellow student with a 7-inch knife. It is unclear why Britany Tessier slashed another 17-year-old girl in the torso, but authorities were able to respond quickly to the scene and rush the victim to the hospital. The victim was able to leave the hospital that day, while Tessier was hit with multiple charges including 2 felonies and a misdemeanor count; she is being held at Westchester County Jail on 50,000 dollars bail. A suspect in the Bronx blast that killed FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy appeared in court on Thursday to waive extradition to New York. 34-year-old Julio Contrer was taken into custody for questioning on Tuesday and could potentially face charges in the case. Contrer agreed to voluntarily return to New York. He is being held in the Bergen County Jail until New York authorities are able to get him. (Source: LoHud)

The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is back for another fall season! The event features a vast array of hand carved pumpkin creations, located at Van Cortlandt Manor. All proceeds for the event support the programs of Historic Hudson Valley, which is a non-profit educational organization. In Major League Baseball news, The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 5-1 as their season winds down. The New York Mets were off last night, but both teams will play tonight; The Yankees will try to derail the Orioles playoff chances at home, while the Mets will try to secure a playoff spot against the Phillies in Philadelphia. Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
