Elia Delivers Academic and Fiscal Plan

Yesterday, Rockland Community College’s Cultural Arts Center was packed as over 250 parents and school officials listened to state Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia deliver an update on the district’s academic and fiscal plan. The good news, full-day kindergarten will begin for all students in October. Some students will not remain in their school. Parents can call 845-444-5288 for more information about their child’s placement. In regards to East Ramapo and the implementation of the recent $3 million dollars with oversight in state aid Elia said the intention is to support them academically, and that “any questions related to the fiscal expenditures of this district are dealt with and that we build that trust level with the community.” $1.2 million will be used to hire more teachers; $1.7 million will be used to restore art, music, dance and theater for grades K-6.
