Deadlines to Voice Your Comments on Oil Trains

The Hudson River and surrounding communities continue to be threatened by the risk of a disastrous spill from oil trains that pass through the valley. Your voice is needed to ensure that railroads are required to stage and prepare oil spill response equipment and personnel so that they can quickly respond to protect our communities, waterways, and economies. The federal government led by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety issued a call for comments on a proposed rule that would require certain railroads to develop “comprehensive Oil Spill Response Plans”. The RiverKeeper’s campaign to stop unsafe trains wants the public to know that the feds have proposed letting railroads stage response and cleanup resources up to 12 hours away from rail lines that carry explosive oil. Today is the last day to make your voice heard.
