DEC Gives Pilgrim Pipeline Positive Declaration

According to The Daily Mail, The State Department of Environmental Conservation has released a statement on the environmental assessment of the controversial Pilgrim Pipeline project, which could see the construction of two buried and parallel pipelines from Albany to Linden, New Jersey. One pipeline would carry crude oil south from Albany, while the other one would carry refined petroleum products like gasoline and diesel north from Linden. According to Sean Mahar, the DEC’s Director of Communications, the project received a positive declaration, meaning that there are potential issues that the project could face that need to be looked into. A negative declaration would mean that there are no issues with a project and it could move ahead. “Ultimately, if they are not addressed, it cannot go through,” Mahar said. “There are significant environmental impacts.”
