NYS “Common Core” Revised

The Common Core, the national educational standard, is getting a revamping here in New York. After seeking comments from more than 10,000 New Yorkers, including parents, teachers and students revisions have now been recommended at every grade level from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. Education Commissioner, Mary Ellen Elia said she wants to hear from more educators and parents “as well as stakeholders so we can develop the best learning standards to prepare New York’s children for their futures.” The “anchor standards” of the Common Core will remain in tact and changes will focus on merging and defining the different anchors particularly in the area of reading. Elia said no changes will be implemented until 2018-2019 school year. You can read the proposed standards at: http://www.nysed.gov/aimhighny
