Afternoon News Update 9/13

A Monsey man was arrested and charged for plotting to kidnap and murder an Orthodox Jewish man. 33-year-old Binyamin Gottlieb and two other suspects planned to kidnap and murder a man so his wife could be divorced under Jewish law. The two other men involved in the plot were arrested 5 days before Gottlieb, who was arrested by the FBI on Sunday at JFK Airport attempting to flee the country. (Source: LoHud)

Police say an unidentified 49-year-old man was stabbed to death in Yonkers’ Getty Square on Monday afternoon. At around 4 p.m. the victim was stabbed in the torso and taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. As per the request of the family, the identity of the victim has not been released. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill this morning that will allow New York breweries to sell other New York produced alcoholic beverages. Cuomo has stated that the bill will help NY farm-based breweries and provide a boost to the industry. This bill was signed a week after Governor Cuomo signed a bill allowing the sale of alcohol at bars and restaurants to begin at 10 a.m. on Sundays, as opposed to the previous time of noon. The Rockland Boulders beat the Quebec Capitales 3-2 last night to advance to the championship series. Pat Butler earned the win for Rockland, while Shaun Ellis took the loss for Quebec. The Rockland Boulders will play the Ottawa Champions in the championship series.
