Spring Valley’s Sanchez-Lorenzo Awarded Carey Gabay Scholarship

The Carey Gabay College Scholarship program has announced the five program winners this year and one recipient is from Spring Valley. Nayelhi Sanchez-Lorenzo emigrated from the Dominican Republic at age six. Nayelhi was active in student organizing, including working with the Rockland Youth Film Festival and promoting greater programming and opportunities for students in her high school,. She is committed to working for social justice and the scholarship will support her attendance at SUNY Binghamton. The scholarship was created to honor the legacy of Carey Gabay, an attorney and public servant in the Cuomo administration who was tragically killed as an innocent victim of gun violence last year at the age of 43. Each scholarship covers all costs of attendance, including tuition, room and board, college fees, books and supplies, and transportation and personal expenses.
