Afternoon News Update 9/7

Police in Valley Cottage have arrested a man who ran a Ponzi scheme and defrauded friends, family, and colleagues. 43-year-old William Wells pleaded guilty to securities and wire fraud charges and was sentenced to a 46-month prison term. Wells has also been ordered to pay restitution to the victims and forfeit the profits from his scheme. In total, Wells’ Ponzi scheme netted more than 1.5 million dollars. (Source: LoHud)

Two men are in critical condition today after a ski boat crashed into their boat and fled the scene on Greenwood Lake two nights ago. 72-year-old Edwin Lane and 76-year-old Robert Roon were transported by helicopter after the incident and brought to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. A 5,000 dollar reward is being offered to anyone with information on the driver of the other boat. You can call the State Police at 732-541-0491. (Source: NorthJersey)

Fishkill authorities are saying the massive fire that tore through a Gap clothing distribution center on August 29th was set intentionally. The fire caused heavy damage to parts of the distribution center, however some of the company’s employees have returned to work. The investigation continues as State Police and the ATF have yet to release more information on the incident. (Source: LoHud)
