Councilman Tree Pleads Guilty and Resigns

71-year-old Ramapo Councilman, Samuel Tress, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct, resigned his position on the Ramapo Town Board, paid a fine of $500, and gave a sample of his DNA as part of a plea deal, according to a press release from the Rockland County District Attorney’s office. In a formal statement, read by Tress in court, he admitted that in May 2015, as a member of the Ramapo Zoning Board, he voted in favor of 8 zoning variances on property he held a financial interest, even though he had signed affidavits that he would never profit from his votes while on the board. Tress also agreed he would never hold any future office or position in Ramapo.
