$74.6M for Healthy Meals and Nutritional Education

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced $74 .6 million in state and federal funding for New York’s 59 county-based area agencies on the aging to support programs that improve older individuals’ access to nutritional and disease prevention services. Funding provides access to healthy meals and promotes health through nutrition counseling and education. Poor diet and physical inactivity are among the leading causes of disability among Americans, and cause one-third of premature deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Malnutrition affects one out of four older residents living in the community and is a factor in half of all hospital admissions and readmissions of older people. Mid-Hudson will receive over $7 million in funding for programs, meals and education. For more information visit: www.aging.ny.gov
