Report Proposes Making Medicinal Marijuana Accessible

The state Department of Health has issued a report this week making 12 recommendations in regards to the state’s medical marijuana program that launched this past January. According to advocates for patients it is too hard to get the drug. The report proposes increasing the number of marijuana companies operating in New York from 5 to 10 and that would increase the number of dispensaries in New York from 20 to 40. They also seek allowances for nurse practitioners to certify patients for medicinal marijuana drug use. According to the report of the state’s 62 counties, 20 counties don’t have any doctors registered in the program. Approximately, a little over half of qualifying patients are 51 or older and approximately 34 percent suffer neuropathy with approximately a quarter suffering cancer.
