#BanTheBarges Yonkers Reps Fight the Hudson Anchorages

Yesterday morning at Yonker’s City Hall, mayor Mike Spano and representatives from almost every Westchester river town gathered to announce they are hiring lawyers to fight the proposed commercial shipping anchorages from Kingston to Yonkers. They said they would begin with a petition for residents to sign, social media campaign at #BanTheBarges and legal support to field options. Spano said, “Our pristine Hudson River could be turned into a floating fuel pipeline,” he added, “I firmly believe that this is the work of the maritime lobby and is strictly a financially driven agenda without any concern for the quality of life and the concerns of our river communities.” The Coast Guard has stated that they plan to hold public hearings in the spring. You have until September 7 to post your comments at regulations.gov.
