Heavy Electrical Use and Lightning Cause Outages

According to Orange & Rockland, “The blistering heat and oppressive humidity are driving exceptionally heavy air conditioning use and its accompanying high electricity demand.” Over the weekend O&R reported record-breaking electrical use highs for both Saturday and Sunday. Consolidated Edison reported over 6,000 power outages in Westchester. The increase in Westchester outages was in part caused by a lightning strike in White Plains, according to spokesman Bill McGee. ConEd said customers may report outages at conEd.com or call 800-75-ConEd – make sure to have your account number with you. O&R, NYSEG, and Central Hudson outage maps are available on their websites.
