Boulders 3, Jackals 2

The Rockland Boulders protected their slim lead down the stretch and held on for a 3-2 win against the New Jersey Jackals. The Boulders took the lead in the third inning when DH Marcus Nidiffer recorded a sac fly that scored CF Jared McDonald, who went 2-for-5, and 1B Jared Schlehuber doubled home SS Junior Arrojo. Schlehuber added a crucial insurance run in the seventh as Arrojo scored from third when he bounced out.  The Jackals cut into the lead in the eighth with a two-run home run from Michael O’Neill but New Jersey couldn’t pull any closer.  Starting pitcher David Fischer earned the win after tossing 7.1 innings and allowing the two runs on four hits while striking out six.  Reliever Hector Nelo picked up the four-out save.  (Reprint from
