Ramapo H.S. Leaky Roof Getting Repaired

It’s official, the leaking roof at Ramapo High School is going to be repaired while students are home for the summer. At Tuesday’s East Ramapo board meeting, the board signed final authorization for WB Contracting to finish the work and Fanshawe Inc. to complete electrical work. State Senator, David Carlucci, is responsible for securing the funding for the $1 million dollar project through a state program for emergency repairs. The deal requires East Ramapo to do the repairs on their own dime and seek reimbursement.  Two reports submitted last year by state monitors accused the board of mismanagement and in February, a report released by the state Department of Education identified eight of East Ramapo’s 14 schools as troubled — an increase from five the year before. In May, students of East Ramapo protested the deteriorating conditions of their beloved school and asked for more action on the part of the board and the state. Chris Bottini, a spokesman for the district, “Fixing the roof at Ramapo High is a good first step that we can take with existing resources, but there’s a lot more to do.”
