America’s Got Talent Moved Suffern’s Grace VanderWaal into Semifinals

On Tuesday evening, 12-year-old Grace VanderWaal of Suffern received the golden buzzer of approval on “America’s Got Talent” television talent competition, pushing her forward into the live semifinals. When asked if she was excited to be on the show she charmed the judges and the audience saying, “it’s crazy”. Simone Cowell, the judge known for his blunt and controversial comments, ask what she would be performing, and little Grace demurred, “I am singing an original.” Simon deadpanned, “really? And what’s it about?” Grace giggled and said, “It’s about me.” The audience cheered her on. When Simon asked if her friends at school were supporting her she replied, “most of my friends don’t really know I sing.” Simon pressed her, “you believe that you can win?” Grace stepped up, “well, I mean, miracles can happen, so possibly.” She took charge of the stage and the audience strumming her ukulele and singing in a somewhat Nellie McKay style her original song “I Don’t Know My Name” about a girl trying to find herself and discovering, “I now know my name.” The audience went wild. Judge Howie Mandel beamed “I think everyone is going to know your name” and he pressed the golden buzzer moving her forward into the live semifinals. Simon Cowell said, “Grace, I think you are the next Taylor Swift”. If you would like to see Grace’s performance you can find her:
