School Fire Inspections Moving Quickly

The school fire inspections are moving faster than wildfire as of yesterday. First, the State Department of Education removed nine schools from the original list supplied to the county by accepting reports done by Ramapo Inspectors. By 4:15 p.m. the state added 17 more schools to that list. Bringing the total to 26 schools taken off the original list as having approved fire reports, according to Rockland County Executive, Ed Day. As of 3 p.m. county fire inspectors had inspected 8 private schools – bringing the total to 34 schools that now have completed inspections. There are still another 15 schools to go. The School Religious Freedom Coalition is scheduled to have their private schools inspected on Wednesday at 9 a.m. The Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Gordon Wren, reports that schools are contacting his office to set up times for inspections. Day said, “We are hopeful that all 49 schools identified by the State Department of Education as needing fire inspections will have them performed.”
