Hoehmann: Private Firm To Examine Clarkstown Police Budget

Clarkstown Superisor George Hoehmann has announced that the Town Board is expected to hire The Bonadio Group to examine the town’s police department’s $50 million budget to find cost-efficient ways to cut spending. Ultimately, the board reviewed 8 proposals to examine staffing, overtime and other spending necessities, and met with 4 firms. The police force of 186 officers and civilian employees receives a third of the town’s overall budget and according to 2015 reports from the Empire Center for New York State Policy, the average combined salary and overtime pay for a uniformed officer was over $166,000. Hoehmann, who beat incumbent Alex Gromack for Town Supervisor, ran on the platform of bringing meaningful cuts to town spending and balance the budget including staffing freezes and salary cuts. The Bonadio Group, an upstate New York firm, has reviewed police departments in Livingston and Orleans counties and would be paid $98,500 for a 90-day period to survey the state’s second highest police force.
