Tax Preparation Free through NYS

ROCKLAND – The time is drawing near to pay your taxes. Governor Cuomo has deployed The Department of Financial Services’ Mobile Command Center to help eligible New Yorkers prepare and file their taxes for free. If you earn under $62,000 a year you may be eligible for in-person free assistance. NYS Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Jerry Boone stated, “It’s now more convenient than ever for taxpayers to file their returns ahead of this year’s April 18th deadline.” He says that, “Tax Department volunteers are traveling with the Mobile Command Center and will be available to answer questions as taxpayers proceed step by step through the user-friendly tax preparation and filing software.” Since the tax- filing season opened in January, the Tax Department has been partnering with libraries and non-profit organizations to provide free tax assistance to thousands of taxpayers at over 85 locations. In addition, by e-filing at home or at the Mobile Command Center taxpayers will ensure that they receive all of the tax credits for which they’re eligible. Tax credits can mean thousands of dollars in savings to taxpayers.
