NYCFC Eyes Orangetown To Build Practice Facility

The New York City Football Club is in talks to purchase a 17-acre site adjacent to the Rockland Psychiatric Center to use as a training facility. The option to buy the property remains for the newest U.S. football club which joined Major League Soccer last year. Private firm STEJ Corporation currently owns the land and has for 11 years, with a vision to build a multimillion dollar recreation center for indoor and outdoor sports however the town board voted unanimously to sever agreements with the firm to free up news deals for private use. Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart acknowledged that future proposals for the site would have to approved by the town’s planning board with buyers contributing $250,000 for infrastructure planning. But Stewart sees the possibility for economic growth for the town saying, “There could be spillover for hotels and restaurants.” The proposed site off of Old Orangeburg Road would see soccer fields, training amenities, offices, and parking. The team currently uses the fields at Purchase College in Westchester as practice grounds.
